Chillagoe Caves

LOCATION : Chillagoe is located 215km inland by road east of Cairns, via Mareeba, in North Queensland. The journey from Cairns lakes approximately three hours.

 

OVERVIEW : Chillagoe Caves are found in giant limestone towers known as tower karst. Many caves are known, three of which are open for inspection. All feature impressive decorations, and some caves are home to a variety of wildlife including swiflets and bats.
ACCOMMODATION : No facilities on site. All tickets (and souvenirs) at QNPWS office, inside Chillagoe Post Office. Hotels, motels, and caravan/camping parks in Chillagoe township.
CAVE TOURS : Three tourist caves - Donna (60 min. tour), Trezkinn (30 min.) and Royal Arch (90 min.). Donna & Trezkinn Caves are electrically-lit, with torches required for Royal Arch Cave. Open every day (except Christmas Day).. Advance bookings taken from group tours only.
